Noticing hypothesis

How do you say "Para que sirve eso" in English?

You can use something like: what's the use of this? / what does this work for? / what does this do? Sometimes even the question "what is this?" will help your counterpart to know that you want to know more than just the name of something. but that varies from person to person.

How would help someone close to you who has a problem?

I always try to listen to them to get as much information as possible I use the 6W method. In the 6W method you ask basic questions about the situation:

These questions allow me to understand their situation. It is also important to be empathetic to understand their emotions. Then I ask them what ideas they have in their head to solve the problem.

With all this information, we start looking at all the alternative solutions to the problem and what risks each solution may have.

After some time, I ask them if they were able to solve the problem.
