Prepositions of place

We normally use "in" with towns, cities and countries

• I live in London
• He lives in Liverpool
• Now they live in Brazil
• She is in Australia this week
• She comes from Borderaux, a city in France
• Where does he live? He lives in the centre
• She lives in a small village in Spain
• Marco comes from Italy. He lives in Venice

Near

• He lives near the airport
• He lives in a town near Paris
• Where is your office? My office is near the station

Far from

• My hometown is not far from London
• Is your hotel far from the centre?
• He lives not far from the centre
• My hotel is not far from the city centre

We use "at" with a specific or exact location

Tip: As we’ve just seen, when we talk about our place or field of work, we say “I work in…“. However, when we give our job title we use the verb “to be”, so we say:

• You're a doctor.
• Are you a designer?
